Acer Tree Mini Chef- Veggie Fajitas!

On Friday, it was Acer Tree's turn to take part in 'Mini Chef'. As a class we decided to make vegetarian fajitas. We all had a go at chopping various vegetables and even took part in bagging up our delicious wraps ready to sell after school!

Year 2- Food Technology- Battle of the Wraps- Day 5!

 Day 5

Day 5 was the final day and the day we made and evaluated our wraps!

We followed our designs, made sure we used the correct cutting grip when chopping our ingredients and then created our final product.

Once we had finished making our group wraps, we then tasted our product and evaluated it. We considered whether it met the brief, if it could be improved by adding different ingredients or textures and then gave it a score out of 5!

 Day 3

Day 3 was design day! 

Now that we've taste tested a variety of combinations we decided on our final design for our group wraps.

We checked that they met the design brief and then enjoyed making up a name for our product.

Some of names include:

'Tunalicious'

'Chicken Star Wrap'

'Turkey Crunch Surprise'

Year 2- Food Technology- Battle of the Wraps - Day 4!

 Day 4

Day 4 was a day for us to develop our cutting skills. In order for us to chop our proteins, fruits and vegetables carefully we had to learn the 'claw' and 'bridge' grip. 

We learnt that the 'claw' grip is best used for long, rigid foods like cucumbers and carrots, whilst the 'bridge' grip is best for spherical foods such as, tomatoes and onions. 

Year 2 Food Technology- Battle of the Wraps- Day 2!

 Day 2

Today we were introduced to our design brief...

1. Little hidden sugars as possible.

2. To include a protein, fruit/vegetable, and a dairy product.

3. To taste delicious.

4. To be cost effective.

In order for us to achieve our design brief we took part in taste testing within our group. We tried different combinations of each of the food groups and then decided as a team which one we liked best. The winning combination would then be our final design for our wrap.

Year 2 Food Technology - Battle of the Wraps- Day 1!

 This week, Year 2 will be undertaking a special mission within Food Technology. Our aim is to design a healthy and nutritious wrap with as little hidden sugars as possible!

Day 1

Today we were introduced to the idea of hidden sugars in many of the foods and drinks we like to consume. As a class, we learnt about how sugar is grown and then how it is refined. We then learnt how to read packaging to help us make healthier choices.
