Year 6 Circuits - PE

This autumn term, Year 6 have been learning about the fundamentals and benefits of exercise, through the use of circuit training.

The children first learnt how to exercise safely, by practising and fine tuning aerobic movements to ensure their form was correct and that the intensity of the movement was adequate. Linden's favourite movement was skater jumps!

The next step was to complete a series of aerobic movements in a circuit; ensuring that our major muscle groups like our quadriceps, biceps and our abdominal muscles were targeted. Due to learning the essentials to exercising safely before the circuit training, Year 6 were able to identify when they had reached their limit. By drinking water, choosing a low intensity exercise and listening to our bodies, we were able to complete several rounds of the circuit - ending with pumping blood, racing hearts and gleeful smiles.

The children ended the term by creating their own circuits for their peers to complete; amalgamating their knowledge of exercise for a final round. Year 6 have become true experts at this and it was great to see them enjoy each session! Well done for your hard work.

Nursery - It's teamwork time!

In Acorn, we have been thinking about teamwork means to us. We sat in a circle and thought about times we worked as part of a larger group and how it made tasks easier to complete, as well as how it felt to do things with other people.

Afterwards, during choosing time, some of us worked together to create structures and play games with models. Look at the fun we had!

Year 3 Active Maths (column method)

In Year 3, we have been learning how to use the partitioned column method. Today, we made our learning active and collected a range of numbers and symbols in groups (in a relay style race). Then, we took our work back to the classroom and worked together co-operatively to solve subtraction calculations by arranging the numbers and symbols into the column method strategy.

Money in Year 2 (Cedar Class)

Year 2 have been learning about money in Maths this week.

We started by identifying coins and understanding the value of each coin.

We then ordered coins from the least value to the most value.

We have even been solving word problems! We used our current value of 'cooperation' to achieve some of our learning this week.

Persevering with our Periscopes in Year 6 Elm Tree Class

This week in Elm Tree we used our scientific knowledge and our DT skills to build periscopes using recycled boxes.

It was a difficult yet really fun challenge; through working in groups and showing values such perseverance, cooperation and effort, we all made contraptions, some of which were successful and worked exactly as periscopes should work.
