Eco Squad 2025

The Eco Squad is a team of children who care about our planet and want to help make our school a greener, cleaner place!

We looked at ways that we can work together to look after the environment, reduce waste and to remind everyone how important it is to care for nature.

What We Do:

Remind classes to recycle and save energy.

Check that taps and lights are turned off when not needed.

Help keep our playground and garden tidy and full of wildlife.

Year 5 Art Sculptures

In Art this term, we tried to recreate the dragon's eye from the story of Beowulf. We had to plan our designs in our sketch books before using the clay to make the sculpture. After it had dried, we then painted on our designs.

Forces - Year 5 Science

In Science this term, Year 5 have been exploring the exciting world of forces! We learned how pushes, pulls and gravity affect how objects move, and how different forces like friction, air resistance and water resistance work in everyday life.

To test what we had learned, we carried out an investigation to explore air resistance. We designed and made our own parachutes with different-sized surfaces, then tested how quickly they fell. We discovered that parachutes with a larger surface area fell more slowly, while smaller ones dropped much faster — helping us understand how air resistance affects speed and movement.

It was a fun, hands-on topic that helped us become real scientists — testing ideas, making predictions, and learning through experiments!

Year 5 PE - Dance

In PE this term, Year 5 combined history and dance to bring our Anglo-Saxon topic to life! We used movement, teamwork, and creativity to act out scenes from life in an Anglo-Saxon village — showing people farming, building, and celebrating together.

We also worked in groups to recreate Viking longboats, using our bodies to show the power and rhythm of the oars as we “sailed” across the sea. Our dances told stories through actions and expressions, helping us imagine what life was like many years ago.

Anglo-Saxons Topic in Year 5

This term, Year 5 have been learning all about the Anglo-Saxons — who they were, where they came from and what life was like in Britain over a thousand years ago!

We discovered how the Anglo-Saxons built their villages, what they wore and ate and how they shaped our language and place names today.

To bring our learning to life, we had an Anglo-Saxon Immersion Day where we dressed up, made shields, explored music as the characters Beowulf and Grendel and learned about life in an ancient village. We also enjoyed an exciting visit to the British Museum where we saw real Anglo-Saxon artefacts — including treasures from Sutton Hoo!

It’s been a fantastic topic full of history, creativity and discovery.
