Year 1 - Say hello to Jigsaw Jack

In PSHCE, Year One were introduced to Jigsaw Jack. Jigsaw Jack is new to the school and was feeling nervous so we all introduced ourselves by telling him our names. 

Jigsaw Jack explained that he wanted to find out what is special to us or who makes us feel special and why. After some thinking time, the children shared their ideas while everyone listened well. 

Jigsaw Jack is going to visit all of our PSHCE lessons from now on. His charter was shared with the class, which said that it is important to take turns to speak, use kind and positive words, listen to each other and respect each other's opinions. Year One signed the charter and agreed to follow the rules.

Year 5 Music Makers

 Year 5

The Year 5 children got going with their musical learning today, working on the xylophones. It is the first time since March 2020 that we have been able to have them all playing together, and they did a fantastic job of being 'in sync' with each other. We set up repeated patterns to make a bass line, harmony, and melody:  ask them why music is like a Victoria sponge...

Here are Maple class, sticking to the beat and playing together.

Over the course of this term, their musical journey will take them down Roman Roads, and through Anglo Saxon Villages. The children will be reading sections of music, and creating their own patterns and ideas.

They finished the day with a singing assembly in the hall. It was a brilliant way to finish the first few days back this year.

Year 6 Music

 Shimmers and Rumbles....

What is the differencing between a shimmer and a rumble?  Can you make foot steps with music?  Could you write a tune with next door notes?  

Year 6 will be looking at lots of different music from many traditions and genres this year - and using ideas they hear to create their own music.  

This week, we got used to being able to use all our brilliant percussion instruments again, before we start composing our own rhythm patterns next week.

Computing in Year 6

This week, we have been focusing on generating ambitious, descriptive vocabulary in our English lessons. As part of this, we used the iPads to create our very own Wordles filled with interesting vocabulary! 

We learnt how to input word lists, change the font, size and colour of the words and add background images. 

We are now using these in our English lessons to support our writing.

Discovering the world in Year 6

This term, we are exploring the continents of the world! We started by consolidating our map skills; we have learnt how to use the contents pages, the index page and various keys. We have also reminded ourselves about how to use longitude and latitude lines to identify a location. 

During our first lesson, we learnt about Ibn Battuta’s exploration to Mecca and plotted his journey on a map. 

In this week’s lesson, we conducted a Scavenger Hunt by locating and plotting different North American countries on an empty map. Afterwards, we used the iPads to find an interesting fact about each country we had located.

Get Active with the Street Tag Initiative!

Exciting news! 

 Greenwich Get Active Street Tag

The 'Street Tag' initiative has arrived in Greenwich to support our school in keeping our children and families active remotely, making active travel plans fun and engaging. Street Tag is an app-based family-friendly game that turns our local area into a virtual playground to earn rewards for physical activity. It’s a great way to stay active and explore our local parks and green spaces over the holidays!

Dear Parent/Carer,

Following Bannockburn being placed in the top three schools in the Greenwich Virtual Competition, we have another fantastic opportunity for you to get active and help us to secure the top spot this summer. 

Street Tag is a free child and family-friendly mobile application that uses virtual tags to incentivise communities and families to take part in physical activity and boost mental health. 

The Street Tag app allows you to collect points assigned to virtual tags around your community. Once you are within a 40-meter radius of any virtual tag, your app will automatically collect points. Your steps can also be synced and converted into Street Tag points. These points add up in real-time on your school’s leaderboard, with prizes to be won at the end of each season. You can also create new tags on your preferred walking, running, or cycling route. 

If you use the Street Tag 'Power Hour' and commit to an hour of exercise 24 hours in advance, your tag points collected during that hour will be tripled.

Steps to join your School Team 

⦁ Download the App “Street Tag” from Play Store/ App Store. 

⦁ Click on Sign up. 

⦁ Fill in your details.  

⦁ Password should be at least 8 characters with 1 special character, 1 upper case, and 1 number.  

⦁ Click YES for Team QR Code. 

⦁ Scan the school QR Code (at the top of this page). 

⦁ Click Sign Up 

⦁ Verify either by email or phone number. 

⦁ Fill in the questionnaire. 

⦁ You are ready to go.

Tips for Parents/Guardians to add a child to a parent account

1. Make sure your child has an email ID.

2. A parent can add a max of 2 children as players C1 and C2.

3.  Go to settings, select the ‘add a child’ option.

4.  Fill in all the details to add a player. 

5. Go to the main menu on the Street Tag app, click on Settings, then go to the Profile option.

6. Select add C1 and C2 options.

Once a child is added as a player. You can see the C1/ C2 option on the main screen. 

While tagging with your children, please click on C1/C2 to scan a tag for them.
