Year 4 - Roman Day
Pupils in Year 4 experienced a range of activities linked to our Roman topic. In Pine Tree class, children learned about how mosaics were a common feature in Roman homes. They planned their designs and worked carefully with tiles to create their own patterns.
Pine Tree visit to the Cutty Sark
This term, Pine Tree class have been learning more about local history and took a trip to visit the Cutty Sark and Maritime Museum in Greenwich. After researching facts about this world famous tea clipper and its Captain, Sir Richard Woodget, children had the chance to explore the decks and see what it was like to be a mate aboard one of its incredible journeys.
So that Year 4 could learn more about the Romans, we spent today completing different activities. In Ash class we built Roman catapults! We looked at how effective catapults were for Romans as weapons and what made them so powerful. We then used lollysticks and elastic bands to create our own. Take a look at our construction and product testing in action.
In order to learn more about the life of Captain Richard Woodget, Ash class visited local Greenwich landmark; the Cutty Sark. We discovered so much about the importance of the world's largest and fastest tea clipper and how crucial Captain Woodget was to its success. We loved using the interactive amenities on board the museum, as well as testing out the cabins and climbing up onto the main deck to experience what life was like for seafarers in the 19th century. Luckily we all had our "sea legs" on and nobody felt queasy!
This week, we have really enjoyed learning about plants and nature in Art and Science. As a starter, we observed different flowers and using our books sketched what we could see.
We then used real flowers to make a nature collage.
