Yera 6 Elm: Discovering Science

Elm class visited the Science Museum this week to explore electricity for ourselves. We had tickets to the exciting Wonderlab, where we were able to carry out lots of different experiments for ourselves.

Some of us also visited the first floor of the museum to find out about how the first electricity was generated- we were amazed at the size of the machines and how many different parts and processes they carried out.

We also were invited to 'Live Wire'- an interactive show about electricity. One of the Science Museum 'Explainers' led the show. We saw and participated in some practical experiments about conductors and insulators and generated our own power to power some disco lights!

Nursery - Bird Feeders in Forest School

This afternoon, Acorn Class in Nursery enjoyed the Autumn sunshine in Forest School.

We made bird feeders. 

Using our fine motor skills, we threaded cheerios onto a pipe cleaner.

We hung them on lots of different trees in Forest School. 

Miss Dadds had to help us reach up high, to get to the tall branches.

Achievement Assemblies at High St and Manor Way

Well done to all the children who were celebrated in today's Achievement Assemblies across both High Street and Manor Way sites. In addition, we had a Yera 6 pupil who managed to not only gain a merit certificate today, but also an Invitation to Always Club and being able to celebrate that his house, Ochre, won the House Point Cup this week!

World Obesity Day with Ochre House

This week, to recognise World Obesity Day on Thursday 11th October, representatives from Ochre House have been promoting healthy eating and fitness to all children at the Manor Way site.

All children who showed they were eating a colourful range of healthy fruit, salad and veg with their school dinner earned a special Rainbow Food sticker given out by our reps. Lots of children tried new items they had never had before and found lots of delicious healthy items to add to their daily dining.

 

Also our first Bannockburn Boot Camp session, led by the Ochre House captains, was so popular and fun that it will now be a regular session on Fridays at 12.45 at the MW site - give it try....but don't give up! All children are welcome! (and teachers too!)

Our green-fingered Gardening Club at Manor Way

Today some Key Stage 2 pupils from Gardening Club toured the Manor Way playground to examine and assess the current gardening plots. They looked at the soils and current plant growth, and with the help of Mrs O'Boyle, planned some new exciting ideas for the house gardening plots and discussed how else we make great places for growing and harvesting, exploring and relaxing at Manor Way.

The High Street site has an amazing array of plants, fruits and vegetables which grow there and which are included in out school lunches and cooking - we hope to do something similar at Manor Way so watch this space.

KS2 Football Competition

Huge congratulations to our Y5 & Y6 footballers who represented Bannockburn at an inter-school competition held at St Paul's yesterday! They showed our school values of Cooperation, Resilience and Perseverance and showed super sportsmanship. They worked so well together that they managed to score a goal in every single match they played!
