Enhanced Quality Mark and Flagship status for Bannockburn School

The hard work and dedication of the whole staff team at Bannockburn has been recognised in the award of the Enhanced Quality Mark for Values based Education (VbE). The assessor noted that “Bannockburn is an outstanding exemplar of a Values based school. It has reached out to its wider community with ever increasing impact”. This award follows on from their success last term in achieving Flagship Status for the Inclusion Quality Mark. That assessor commented “I understood immediately that an inclusive ethos is integral to everything that happens here”. Congratulations to the entire school community.

High Street's Sensory Garden

This week we have enjoyed investigating all of the new smells in our garden. Some of our favourites have included mint, pineapple, lemon and even a curry plant!

We have been busy digging to prepare the ground for our young pumpkin plants and enjoyed watering everything on the dry days. 

We are always very excited to see new things growing. 

At 9am on Friday we had 3 small courgette plants and by home time we were amazed to see that 2 more had appeared!

Gurkhas by Digital Leader Ifechi in Maple Tree

In Year 5 we have been learning about the Gurkha soldiers and their lifestyle. We have been looking at how they worked in the British Army and how they had to do the exact same jobs. I found it interesting how some Gurkhas sacrificed their lives for Britain. Some of the best soldiers won awards like the Victoria Cross. One soldier was extremely brave and tried to throw bombs back at the army. He was one of my top favourites. Some were so significant they had a memorial statue with poppies surrounding it.     
  

Amazing Algebra by Digital Leader Aaronveer in Hawthorn Tree

Algebra could be hard for people but once you know the basics it's pretty easy. Being in Year 5 and 6 it will probably be harder but you just need to - the first number by the other for example 10 -W = 4 you could just do 10 - 4 = 6 so W = 6. You might be multiplying so you can do 5 x 4 and there's your  answer. Although algebra is pretty hard it can be much easier than you think. Algebra isn't that bad just give it a try and it will work so be careful with Amazing Algebra. Just think like this and it will be easy. Here is an example of my algebra:

Will an orange float in water? by Digital Leader Alfie in Maple Tree

In this final term we have been learning about forces in science. Our investigation question was "Will an orange float in water?" In this investigation, we had to see if an orange would float in water. Everyone had to make their predictions; most people said it will float and some said it wouldn't. After that, Miss Simber put a container filled with water at the back and then put the orange into the water. To most people's surprise, it floated! Then, we had to write our observations in our books and then we engaged in a discussion on how we could make it sink. Nearly everybody in the class said to peel the orange so that's what we did! After we peeled it, we put it back it the water, and as expected, it sunk to the bottom. Then, we had to write more observations, our method and our conclusion and what we did to make it sink.
