Collaborative Debate with Alexander McLeod Primary

Today, a group of fifteen Year 5 and 6 children from Bannockburn collaborated with 15 pupils from Alexander McLeod Primary School to prepare for and hold a debate. The question we considered was 'Should children be allowed to vote?'.

We used newspaper articles, blog posts and our own experiences to identify points to support and oppose the debate question. We began our day with a working breakfast of hot chocolate, brioche and fruit while we got to know each other, before putting together our research and sharing our ideas. We nominated key speakers and prepared and rehearsed our arguments in the morning and enjoyed sharing a lunchtime together.

In the afternoon, the Key Stage 2 Bannockburn Debate Pupil Partnerships group came to watch our debate, along with Mrs Seeranj and Mr Clarke (our judging panel). We were so impressed by the thoroughness of everyone's research and how respectfully everyone communicated their ideas- we had a brilliant day!

We want to say a huge thanks to our new friends at Alexander McLeod Primary School- we had a fantastic day working with you and we are already working on a new project for us to collaborate in the future!
