Year 4 enjoyed a special food tasting session as part of our learning about Judaism. The children have been exploring the story of Passover and how Jewish families remember this important event through the Seder meal.
We tasted a selection of foods from the Seder plate, including parsley dipped in salt water, which represents the tears of the Jewish people during slavery in Egypt. We also tried unleavened bread (matzah), reminding us of how the Israelites had to leave in a hurry with no time for their bread to rise. To finish, we sampled apples and honey, symbolising hope, sweetness and new beginnings. The children made thoughtful links between the foods and the Passover story, deepening their understanding of Jewish traditions in a memorable and hands-on way.
