Food Tech Year 1- planning

First of all, we learned about differences between fruit and veg, thinking about where they grow. Then we looked at all the different parts of the plant that you can eat. Finally we had a taste test and chose our favourite vegetables. We designed a meal that has to be healthy and filling. Children completed a planning sheet.

Food Tech Year 1 - Making

Next, while some children helped prepare food, other children explored different aspects of food, linking to our History topic. Children learned about food hygiene and practised cooking skills and using cooking utensils. Children read and followed the recipe. They helped each other chop, blitz, open tins, strain legumes, prepare the packaging and wash up after.

 

Year 1 Food Tech - evaluation

Finally, the children tasted the results. They gave the recipe a score and completed theirs design sheets by describing what they liked or disliked about the dish. Yummy

 

Year 4 English

 

In English this week, Year 4 have been learning about the importance of headings and subheadings to organise information in a non-fiction text. We had an article about extreme sports that we cut apart sentence by sentence and had to match the information to the subheadings and appropriate images to put the article back together again. After, we discussed how headings and subheadings can organise information for the reader and allow them to find specific information quickly.

Year 3 Maths: Fractions

 In today's lesson Year 3 focused on the numerator and denominator of a fraction. 

We identified the denominator of a fraction first by counting the parts that the whole had been split into and then we shaded some of those parts to give the numerator. 

Year 3 Maths: First lesson on Fractions

Today was Year 3's first lesson on Fractions. We learnt that fractions are parts of wholes that have been divided into different parts. We learned that the denominator (the number on the bottom of a fraction) represents how many parts the whole has been split into and the numerator (the number on the top) is how many parts we have or are referring to. In our lesson, we also looked at different fraction models and how they combine to make a whole.
