Sandwich Making in Year 1!

This week we continued to think about healthy eating. We reminded ourselves of the five food groups and what foods could be classified into each group.

We then used this information to make a sandwich.

We designed what we wanted the sandwich to look like and wrote down instructions on what we needed to do.

We were very careful when cutting the ingredients.

Vector Images in Year 5 #computing

This term, Year 5 have been learning how to create Vector images. They have learnt a range of new skills, including:

  • copy and pasting using the keyboard
  • inserting a shape
  • using the keyboard to undo
  • moving, resizing and rotating shapes
  • sending shapes to the back or front of a layer
  • filling a shape with a colour, texture or gradient
  • changing the colour, style and width of the outlines of shapes
  • copy and pasting images from Kiddle to use as backgrounds

We are very pleased with the crazy animals we made and we hope you enjoy them too!

Science in Year 5 #science

This week we have been investigating how to make a liquid stack.

We made our predictions based on the properties of different liquids; some groups thought that liquids would need to be poured in a specific order to separate, others did not think the order mattered.

Today we found out…

Each group poured their chosen liquids into a container in a specified order, giving each liquid one minute to settle. They repeated this process until all liquids were poured. After this, groups conducted observations, which they wrote up in a table, and drew a diagram of each stack of liquids.

Here are the results:

Can you try to explain why the liquids have separated in this way? Why don’t you try this activity at home and see what happens for yourself?

Next week, we will be writing our conclusion so we will reveal the answer then!

EYFS Jumping Challenge (Apple Class)

The children in reception have taken part in the EYFS jump challenge to earn points for the Greenwich School Sports Virtual League.

Four cones were spaced out to represent approx. 3.47m which is the current long jump world record. We counted how many jumps it took us to jump from the beginning to the end.

In Year 3, we're all winners!

For Art and Design Technology, Year 3 have been making their own medals as part of our Ancient Greeks topic. We used running stitch and back stick to create our pattern and added felt for decoration. It was a true test of our school values, particularly patience!

Conscience Alley in Chestnut Class (Year 3)

This week in English we have begun learning about the story of Pandora's Box from ancient Greek mythology. We are aiming to write persuasive letters to Pandora, convincing her to either open the mysterious box from Zeus or keep it shut!

We considered lots of ideas for and against opening the box and in pairs, created mind-maps to record as many ideas as we could. Then, we created a 'conscience alley' or 'thought tunnel', in which the two sides of the argument tried to convince Pandora that they were right.

Year 6 Linden Reward Trip to Joss Bay

Due to consistently exemplifying our School Values this term, twelve children from Linden Class were invited to go on the Reward Trip to Joss Bay, Broadstairs in Kent.

Joss Bay is famous for its beautiful sandy beach and clear, clean water. It is a popular beach destination for families.

The weather was great and the children really enjoyed a lovely day out on the beach.
