Reading Rangers PLG group meeting

The Reading Rangers PLG group have met to discuss and reflect on the events of World Book Day at Bannockburn.

They also spent time using the iPads to research books on the Usbourne website that they would like the school to order next year, thinking about a range of different reading interests and age groups. This pupil voice will help teachers when choosing new books to buy for our school.

Finally, they spoke a little about the impact of our school weekly 'Book Swap' on encouraging the pupils at our school to enjoy reading for pleasure and enabling children to access a range of different books. We created colourful, informative posters to add to the Book Swap display, which aimed to catch people's attention and provide useful information about the scheme.

The Book Swap is held after school on Wednesdays at Manor Way (in the gazebo).

High or low; Loud or quiet?

Year 2 have been looking at PITCH in their music lessons.  They have looked at how the size of an instrument affects how low or high the pitch of its sound is.

Today we used the Boomwhackers to investigate this.  We got ourselves into size order then tested by playing the instruments.

Aerobics PE Scavenger Hunt in Year 2!

To finish off our Aerobics topic this term for indoor PE, we had to work in teams of 3 to find different aerobic workouts in a scavenger hunt in the hall! We had to find different movements to create our own aerobic workout stations! Once we created our stations, we took part in a workout carousel and made our way round to every workout station. We challenged ourselves with movements such as lunges, high knees while punching, balancing and box push ups. We discussed the importance of cooling down and we participated in some breathing exercises.

Year 3 visit Woolwich Arsenal Riverside

This week, Year 3 went to explore Woolwich Arsenal Riverside. Our task was to explore the area and discuss how the land was used. We talked about how the land was used as an artillery barracks and that some of the building from this time are still standing today. In contrast, there are many new and modern flats and buildings that have been built as well as shops and entertainment facilities. We enjoyed sketching the Thames as well as points of interest around us such as statues and cannons.
