What is effective persuasion?
Year 6 are preparing to write a persuasive letter next week. We have looked at lots of examples to identify the key features of this text type. Some of the features that we noticed authors using consistently were using persuasive language openers and presenting their opinion as fact.
To develop our fluency and familiarity with this target vocabulary, we spent some time trying to convince our tables to agree with us on contentious points such as:
All children should not be allowed mobile phones.
Children should be able to vote.
Children aged 12+ should be able to learn to drive.
The language we targeted included:
It is obvious that...
No one could disagree that...
Obviously,....
Any reasonable person would agree that...
Clearly, ...
