Wild Weather Wednesday!
In Year Four we have been
looking at different types of natural disasters and extreme weather conditions.
On Wild Weather Wednesday, the Year
Four children dressed up as scientists and weather reporters for a day of
experiences, experiments and excitement!
We began our day learning and
practising what to do before, during and after an Earthquake. Fortunately, this
came in very useful later on in the day when all three Year Four classes
managed to evacuate the building safely when an earthquake came to Plumstead!
Our classrooms then turned into construction sites with children planning, building and adapting earthquake resistant buildings. These were then thoroughly tested on a platform of jelly!
Finally, we spent the afternoon
researching for Year Four’s first ever weather broadcast focusing on extreme
weathers. To create effective and informative weather broadcasts the children
researched events such as eruptions, tsunamis, tornadoes, hurricanes, floods
and earthquakes. They then rehearsed their performance and presented to the
class using their new knowledge and topic vocabulary.
Many children blew us away with their scientific knowledge and clear broadcasting skills. We may have found their future careers! We had a great day!
