In Science, Year 4 have been learning about forces and have carried out an investigation on the distance a toy car would travel on different surfaces. The children used ramps with carpet, wood, rubber and sand paper surfaces.
Before investigating, the children predicted which surface would allow the toy car to travel the furthest. After investigating, they concluded that the car travelled better on the wood surface because there was less friction as the wood was smooth. They realised that more force would be needed for the car to travel further on a carpet surface because the carpet didn’t allow the toy cars to travel far (and in some cases not at all!)
