RE: Buddhism in Year 6

This term, Year 6 have been learning about the story of Buddha. They discussed the significance of events in Buddha’s life including the Four Sights and the Three Poisons, reflecting upon the meaning of Enlightenment. As part of their learning, the children explored how Buddhists try to follow the teachings of Buddha through following the Eightfold Path and the Four Noble Truths. We also learnt about the Buddhist festival Wesak (Vesak) which is celebrated on the first full moon in May (or occasionally early June). We looked at why it is an important time for Buddhists and the activities that Buddhists might do to celebrate Wesak. To celebrate, we took part in different activities such as: comparing Wesak to another religious festival, creating a calendar of kind deeds for the month, making origami lotus flowers and Wesak Day cards for our friends and loved ones.
