As part of our Healthy Eating Week, Nursery pupils took part in an exciting and immersive farm shop experience. The children role-played being shopkeepers and customers, selling and buying real fruits in a carefully set-up farm shop environment. This hands-on activity helped the children learn about staying healthy and the importance of eating a balanced, nutritious diet.
Through this immersive experience, pupils developed a practical understanding of money, linking their learning to early mathematical concepts such as counting, recognising numbers, and exchanging coins. The role play also supported their understanding of the world, as they explored real-life scenarios and responsibilities involved in being both a shopkeeper and a customer.
The learning continued the following day when the children used the fruit they had bought from the shop to make their own fruit kebabs. This activity reinforced healthy eating messages, encouraged independence, and allowed the children to take pride in preparing and enjoying a healthy snack.
Overall, the experience provided meaningful, real-life learning opportunities that supported development across multiple areas while making healthy choices fun and engaging.
