PE - Jumping Like a Volcano in Year 4!

In our indoor PE lesson in Spring 1, Year 4 explored the question: How can I jump to represent a volcanic eruption? As part of our Gymnastics – Natural Disasters topic, we used our bodies to show changes in speed, level and direction. We started by thinking about how a volcano begins quietly and slowly, then suddenly erupts with power and energy. The children practised small, low jumps to show the rumbling stage, before exploding into high, fast jumps to represent the eruption. We also changed direction in the air and when landing to show lava spreading in different ways. It was wonderful to see such creative movements and strong control. The class worked hard to perform safely, using good balance and controlled landings. Take a look at our photos to see our powerful volcanic jumps in action!
