R.E. Year 4 Sikhism

Year 4 Learn About Sikhism

This week, Year 4 enjoyed a special assembly exploring the daily life and rituals of a Khalsa Sikh. We were lucky to welcome a parent, Mrs Kaur, who shared her knowledge and experiences, followed by an engaging Q&A session with the children.

We learned about some of the important practices and symbols associated with Khalsa Sikhs, including the Five Ks:

  • Kesh – uncut hair
  • Kangha – a small wooden comb
  • Kara – an iron or steel bracelet
  • Kachera – special undergarments
  • Kirpan – a ceremonial sword representing responsibility and the duty to protect others

We also learnt the importance of values such as equality, service, kindness and respect. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to ask questions and develop their understanding of Sikhism and the diversity within our school community.

We would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Kaur for taking the time to share their knowledge with us and for answering the children's questions.

Well done, Year 4, for your curiosity, respect and thoughtful participation
