Year 6 Classification - Science

Today, Year 6 built on the knowledge they acquired in Year 4 by learning about arthropods.

They learnt about the defining characteristics of arthropods: an exoskeleton and jointed legs or feet. They then learnt about 5 different groups of arthropods and how to identify them using observable characteristics: millipedes, centipedes, crustaceans, arachnids and insects.

Children then visited the Science Lab where they observed encased arthropods up close! They had to identify the defining characteristics of each arthropod and explain what group it belonged to.
