This week, Year 3 have been learning about Christian parables. We read the story of the Lost Sheep and then created storyboards of the main events. We also discussed the meaning behind the story and what Christians learn from parables. In small groups, we acted out the story to practise our speaking and listening skills.

Just Keep Swimming with Maple Class - Year 5
Just Keep Swimming!
This term, Year 5 have been attending swimming lessons at the Waterfront Leisure Centre in Woolwich.
So far, the children have enjoyed learning a variety of different strokes, including: breast stroke, front crawl, back stroke and butterfly. They have also learnt how to float in the water and what to do if they were stuck at sea.
Below you can see some images of the children in Maple Class practising these skills.
YEAR 4 - London Symphony Orchestra!
On Wednesday 4th May, Year 4 went to to the Barbican Centre to hear the London Symphony Orchestra play. The concert was music by female composers, including a piece called Spark Catchers. You can hear the London Symphony Orchestra playing some of it here.
There was also music by Florence Price, which you can explore here.
The children got to sing with the orchestra; a song all about cheese!
Year 5 Music
Pentatonic Scales and Improvising.
Year 5 have been using the xylophones this term to develop their improvising skills. They are using PENTATONIC scales (5 notes) and have been working within musical boundaries.
Today, they were playing back and firth in their pairs, improvising for 8 counts each and internalising the pulse.
They noticed that as time went on, the improvisations started to sound similar to each other as their ears tuned in to other peoples playing.

Family roles in PD - Year 3
In this week's Personal Development (PD) lesson, Year 3 discussed 'stereotypes' related to men and women. We sorted various activities (such as washing up and mowing the lawn) into jobs that men, women or both normally do. After discussing this as a class, we came to the conclusion that even though stereotypes exist about expectations for different genders - both men and women can do any job! We then drew our own families and thought about the roles each member plays at home.
