Film Posters in Reading - Year 5
As part of our 'Whole Class' Reading lessons, Year 5 have been investigating the themes of Beowulf.
First, we thought about the themes of popular books and films such as Harry Potter, Dork Diaries and Beast Quest. We then looked at how film posters can reflect the themes of the films they are advertising.
After working in pairs to collate the themes found in Beowulf, we designed our own film posters.
Which themes are reflected in the book you are reading at the moment?

Looking after your mental health and wellbeing
To support our mental health and wellbeing, we link with The Children's Health Project, to share ideas of activities that can be done at home.
1)
Below are three BIG questions. You need to choose just ONE of them.
First of all, consider what your answer might be to this BIG question.
Then, ask your friends and family what their opinions are. Gather lots of people's opinions about this BIG question.
Finally, reflect on your own opinion again - have other people's thoughts, changed your opinion?
What's your answer to the BIG question now?
Question 1 - If you were in charge of the country, how would you ensure people felt
well physically and mentally?
Question 2 - If someone is feeling low in energy, and not very happy, what would
you suggest they did over the course of a week to feel better?
Question 3 - What could you do now to help yourself live a healthier and happier life
when you’re 100 years old?
2)
Click here to watch a rest and relaxation journaling video
Now try and answer these questions-
Why do the body and mind need to rest and relax?
Does anything make resting and relaxing difficult for you?
Can you describe a few things you do to rest and relax?
Write about these.....OR.....draw about these.

Gardening at Lunchtime
Some of the Year 5 boys were helping Mr Hanks today plant some new lavender plants on the MW site this lunchtime.
Year 4 Big Write - Should we stay or should we go?!
Reading the text, Shackleton’s Journey as our inspiration, we have written setting descriptions, telegrams, diary entries and letters in role. Today we wrote letters to Shackleton, in role of a member of the expedition crew, giving our for other against argument for leaving Elephant Island.
Did you know, twenty two members of Shackleton’s crew were left stranded for over a year on an island in the Southern Ocean? Luckily, they were rescued in the end!
Next week, our focus will be writing a newspaper report of the events. Watch this space!
