Year 4's Adventure in London - A visit to The National Gallery

Year 4 went on a very exciting visit to The National Gallery this week. We took the bus and the train from Plumstead all the way to Charing Cross and we saw some amazing sights on the way. Going over the River Thames was a highlight!

When we got to the gallery, we had to work with our group to locate different pieces of art that linked to our learning. We needed to find a still-life that had tropical fruit, a river scene and a carbon print. We could then see how the skills we learnt about at school linked directly to these famous artists! We then had a chance to sketch some of these paintings into our sketchbooks.

Whilst there, we also saw some very famous pieces of art that we had learnt about previously. These included Vincent Van Gogh's 'Sunflowers' and Henri Rousseau's 'Tiger in a Rainforest'. To see these paintings in real-life was incredible!

After we visited the gallery, the sunny weather meant that we could visit Trafalgar Square and eat our lunch. The children loved seeing the fountains and visiting another famous London landmark although they were less impressed with the pigeons!

The children behaved brilliantly throughout the day and we were very proud of them.

Well done Year 4!
