We have been using the 'draw it out' strategy to helps with our problem solving in maths. We were posed this problem:
In a class, the children were asked to list their favourite fruits. The list was bananas, apples and oranges. Next, they were asked to list the fruit in order, from their least favourite to their most favourite. How many different ways could they have ordered the three fruits? In order to solve the problem we used images of the fruit and ordered them in a variety of ways. We suggested working in a systematic approach to ensure we found all possible variations. After, we applied these new skills to a different problem, drawing out different items and combinations to help us. |
