World Mental Health Awareness Day in Sycamore Tree

Today was World Mental Health Day and we showed our support by wearing yellow.
To raise awareness and understanding of mental health, we started the day by discussing what mental health means and talking about the different emotions we feel. We then talked about ways to help ourselves feel calm. We came up with some great suggestions:
  • deep breathing
  • colouring
  • drawing
  • painting
  • reading
  • talking to someone
  • playing with a friend
  • singing
  • dancing
Telling jokes can also make people feel good so we shared our favourite jokes as a class.
One of our favourites was, "What wobbles in the sky? - A jellycopter."

We then read a book called 'Lucy's Blue Day' where the main character's hair turns different colours depending on her emotion. Afterwards, we drew ourselves with different coloured hair and reflected on what this means.

After lunch, we enjoyed chalking positive message and happy pictures onto the playground. Did you spot any when you came to collect us?

To finish off our day, we sang 'Happy' and danced together to make ourselves smile and feel good!
