First thing in the morning, the children prepared their
puddings in small groups. These were: individual summer fruit puddings, a
chocolate tart, a dark chocolate tart and individual trifles with homemade
custard. Whilst these were cooling and setting, the children got on with
prepping for their soups. They chose to cook leek and potato, mulligatawny and
tomato soup, which they later garnished with homemade croutons and a range of
herbs.
After a short break, the children prepared the salads to
accompany their main courses showing off a range of skills, including:
spiralising, grating, peeling, chopping and dicing. They then prepared a
healthy coating for their chicken or quorn nuggets which they cooked by either
shallow frying or baking.
Once all the food was prepared, it was judged on taste and presentation by Mr Smales, our parent governor Kafayat Eletu, Mrs Britton and Mrs Seaton. The food was then served in courses to the rest of the year group.

It was an extremely successful day and really showcased how
the children’s cooking and presentation skills have improved over the course of
the project. Our winner and runners up will be announced very shortly!
