This half term in science, we have been focusing on animals and their environments.
Today, we about the increasing deer population (50% in the last year alone) in UK woodlands and the effect this has on other living things who share the same habitat. We looked carefully at the facts we were presented with to prepare our thoughts for and against whether deer should be culled to control the population.
Once we had our points together, we used a 'philosophy for change' approach to facilitate a class debate. When we had the deer toy in our hands we could speak, but when we didn't, we shared whole body respectful listening to our classmates.
At the end of our debate, we recognised that school values such as patience, kindness, cooperation and fairness were school values that we needed to incorporate in order to be successful in a debate.
