Year 4 Visit the Greenwich Hindu Temple

Today we visited the Greenwich Hindu Temple to develop our understanding of the religious beliefs and practices of the Hindu faith.

This main Hindu place of worship is also called a Mandir and at the centre of the temple is a shrine that allows Hindus to respect and offer up special gifts to representations of different Hindu gods. We learnt that the god statues are given offerings of food every morning by the Pandit Ji (a Hindu spiritual). Once these special gifts are given up to the gods they become ‘Prasad’ or blessed.

Not only this, we learnt that the gods are washed too. A statue that represents baby Krishna even sleeps in a small bed upon the shrine every night.
