Beat and Rhythm
Next time you’re listening to
music, see if you can clap or tap the beat; Remember that if you’re dancing to
music – you’re automatically finding the beat.
Pick your favourite lyrics
(words) in the song – Can you clap the rhythm they make?
Down at the creepy castle – can
you sing and clap this line?
1. Clap
the line over and over again
2. Replace
One (or more) of the claps with a stamp
3. Replace
another with a click – or a different sound (pat your chest, tap your knees)
My version ended up like this:
You have made a body percussion
rhythm.
Can you choose some words from
your favouite song to make a different pattern?
Can you have a go at writing your
rhythm down?
This link will show a body
percussion piece involving about 100 children.
See if it gives you any ideas.

Teach your adults how to play
‘Don’t clap this one back.’ See how
often you can catch them out and how many different rhythm patterns you can
come up with.
If you have a brother or sister
at home with you – can you both come up with different patterns that you can do
at the same time?
