Year 6 visit St Nicholas Church

As part of our learning about Easter, Year 6 visited nearby St Nicholas Church. We were extremely fortunate that Father Andrew was able to spare the time to show us around the church and answer many of the children's questions. Here are some of the comments made by the children after the visit:

"I really enjoyed visiting the church. It was so beautiful."

"It was great to meet a real priest and to be able to learn about Easter from him."

"The church was amazing. It really helped me to understand what Easter means for Christians."

Year 6 Heart Dissection

This term, we have been learning about the circulatory system in Science. We looked at the role of the heart in pumping blood around the body and identifying the different parts of the heart. To help us with our studies, Mr Gunnoo taught a lesson on heart dissection. In groups, we used scissors to cut open a sheep's heart to find the left/right atrium and the left/right ventricle. We noticed how the muscle was much thicker on the left side. This is because the left ventricle has to contract to move blood throughout the whole body, so it has to have more muscle than the right, which brings blood a short distance to the lungs.
