Year 3 - Immersion Day: Good to be Green

Year 3 had a great time during our "Good to be Green" immersion day. We learned about and discussed a range of environmental issues facing our planet, such as deforestation, climate change and plastic pollution. We learned about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch: an area in the Pacific ocean that contains waste plastic that finds its way into the ocean. We also looked at how sea creatures were being affected by ocean-bound waste. We used atlases to locate rainforests throughout the world and drew them on empty maps. We learned about Michelle Reader, a sculptor who works exclusively with recycled materials to create her art. The sculptures she produces convey messages about how our society produce lots of waste. Inspired by her art work, we created our own sculptures from recycled material.
