Extreme Earthquake Rocks Year 4

 Extreme Earthquake Rocks Year 4

This half term, children in Year 4 have started learning all about the devastation that can be cause by natural disasters. On Wednesday 30th October, pupils were invited to dress up and get ready for a fun-packed day to understand more about our Extreme Earth.

We had a number of scientists, news reporters, weather reporters and even the Prime Minister and a mad genius, who made the day a truly memorable one.

Throughout the day, children took part in a range of activities, such as the 'Panic Room' experience where children responded to an earthquake situation. Learning about what kind of things might be happening around them and what they should do if ever an earthquake were to start.

Using watercolours, children recreated a painting called The Great Wave. They produced some impressive work and found out about how tsunamis are created and the countries that have been devastated by them.

Pupils also learned about how some countries have designed special buildings to cope with these disasters and they had a go at designing and making their own earthquake proof buildings.

From the information collected, children worked in teams to plan, script and record their own news reports about a natural disaster.

All in all, it was a really enjoyable event that got children excited about their learning for this term.

Special thanks to all parents who helped with outfits to make the day more memorable.
