Courageous Famous people




Martin Luther King Jnr

Did you know that Martin Luther King Junior's actual name was Micheal King Jnr. He was born on 15th January 1929, Atlanta Georgia USA. He was a Baptist minister and social activist, who led the civil rights movement in the USA from the mid 1950s to his assassination, which was in 1968. His leadership was crucial to the movement's success in ending the legal segregation of African Americans in the south and the rest of the United States as he rose as head of the southern Christian leadership conference, which promoted non-violent tactics, such as the march on Washington in 1963. He was given a Nobel Peace Prize in 1964, although he was such a noble person he still faced many challenges such as people not agreeing to is valid message of peace and equality. Unfortunately, he was assassinated on the 4th of April 1968. Martin Luther King is an inspiration for all generations to come

Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela is a significant figure in history. He was born on the 18th of July 1918 in Mveso,Umtatta which is now known as Mthatha, South Africa. Although Nelson Mandela is no longer with us he is still a very important man in our ever-changing world. The reason he is so important is that he led the anti apartheid movement even whilst being in prison for 27 years in total isolation at Robben Island and then transferred to Victor Vester prison. He has changed the world for all black South Africans. He was also elected as the first black South African president. His commitment and consistency in speaking out and taking action against segregation led to the reform of the South African government. He was awarded a Noble Peace Prize for his arbitration with Frederick willem de klerk in 1993, who was the former president. Nelson Mandela died on the 5th of December 2013. He had achieved so much in his 95 years. Nelson is an inspiration for all generations to come...
