The Young Chef of the Year in Year 5

The Young Chef of the Year cooking competition is well underway in Year 5. For this competition, 30 children from across the year group will prepare a soup, main course, drink and pudding for a hero of their choice.

They have been researching their chosen hero at home and planning what they would like to cook for them, taking into consideration tastes, textures and a balanced diet.

In our cooking sessions at school, the children have learnt to safely cut and peel an apple. They have investigated the oxidation process and identified that lemon juice helps to keep cut fruit and vegetables fresh.

This week, we made smoothies, tasting and adapting them as we made them.

Here are some photos of the children preparing and tasting their smoothies.
