Poetic Rappers in the making! Year 5 and 6 Able Writers Day

Today, some very lucky children from Years 5 and 6 took part in an Able Writers Day!

We were very lucky to work with poetic rapper Rob Bradley.

We began the day by learning all about how Rob was inspired to become a poet and rapper and we discovered that he was also an incredible freestyle poet as he performed for us using 40 words we chose at random! We were very impressed!

As the day continued, we learnt the techniques for creating our own rhythmic poet by looking at rhyming words and how you can build a bank of vocabulary to inspire you!

We managed to find 110 words that rhymed with door!

In the afternoon, we put our creative juices to the test and created poetic raps that consisted of 8 lines and 4 beats in each line. We found making the words fit a rhythm the trickiest part!

Towards the end the day, we all performed our poetic raps in front of each other! We were very brave!

Thank you Rob for a creative and inspiring day! You even gifted us one of your new poetry books.

We hope to see you again soon!
