At Plumstead Manor Secondary School, some Year 4 children were able to get 'hands on' with building circuits in a workshop carried out by a secondary Science teacher. We began the session by recapping what the children have learnt in class this term.
We were then asked to build a series circuit using the following components: wires, a cell and a bulb. Following that, we drew the circuit using symbols to represent the components. Next, we were asked to incorporate a switch into our circuit and as our components list was building up we decided to draw a key.
After that, we were introduced to an ammeter (measuring in milliamps). We took reading from this and noted those down. Drawing on our knowledge of series and parallel circuits, we built a parallel circuit next and discussed how the lights in the room functioned.
