What is natural selection? Year 6 Science

This term, children have been learning about Evolution and Inheritance. So far, we have studied the work of Mary Anning and Charles Darwin and learnt about the importance of fossils.

This week, children developed their knowledge of Darwin's theory of natural selection by playing a game that models the process. The game shows that living things reproduce offspring. This is represented by the black lines. We then rolled a dice and, according to the number on the dice, the offspring either inherited characteristics from their parents or they mutated.

Next week, children will be learning what they have learnt to explain the process in more detail.
