In Science this week, Year 1 conducted an experiment to see which material is best for an umbrella. We discussed why we use an umbrella and the children were able to say that an umbrella keeps you dry. The key language throughout the investigation was waterproof. We tested cotton wool, tin foil, plastic, play dough, paper and fabric to see which one was the most waterproof.
Before we started the experiment, we made a prediction that the plastic would be best. Once all the materials were tested, we shared our findings with the class. We came to the conclusion that plastic was the best material to use.
