RE Virtual Church Tour

In RE, children have been learning about Christianity and their place of  worship. Today children used the VR Goggles to look at churches from around the world. Children got to visit  Notre Dame in Paris. Luckily the children have been learning a little about some of our neighbours in Europe and knew that it was in France.

Always Club - Year 4

On Friday eight Year 4 pupils (two from each class) were invited to join Always Club after lunch. Chosen for their postive choices throughout the week and exemplifying our school values, the children had a lovely afternoon making snow shakers with Mrs Parsons.

Christingles - Year 2

Today, we learnt about the Christian celebration Christmas. We discussed the story of Christmas and how Christians celebrate during this period. We also looked at Christingles and what each part of a Christingle represents. We then had a go at making our own.

Mini-Chef with the Manor Way Healthy Eating Monitors

As part of our campaign to support our community to stay healthy and eat well, the Healthy Eating Monitors Team from Manor Way took over the Community Kitchen last week, where we created a delicious veggie pasta bake. Containing courgettes, aubergines, tomatoes, onions and peppers our veggie bake was packed full of nutritious delicious goodness, with garlic and fresh basil to help season our pasta dish.

Everyone got involved in the planning and preparation process and we were so proud to sell our meals to our community.

The Healthy Eating Team from High Street will be creating something special soon so watch this space!

UK Children's Parliament 2021

Earlier this year the Debating Team met to draft some ideas for a debate on climate change. Our school was then selected to send a representative from our pupil community to attend the 2021 online UK Children's Parliament, where they would representative our school and local constituency in an online video debate with hundreds of children from across the UK.

Can you spot our school member from this screenshot?!

Also the event created a World Record for the largest Children's Parliament ever hosted!

For more information on the event see the Daily Express article that was published.

Feedback from the even was also shared with some UK delegates at the COP26 summit; here some of the points our children wanted shared with the delegates.

What is the most important aspect of Climate Change for COP26 delegates to consider?

Move to Electric or Alternative Powered Vehicles

Reduce Waste

Move to renewable energy sources

Protect Endangered Animals

Improve Water Supplies

Reduce deforestation (cutting down trees)

Support People in poorer countries impacted by climate change

Year 4 and the Four Ashramas

This half term, Year 4 have been learning more about Hinduism.

Part of our learning this week has been to find out more about the 'Four Ashramas', which is all about the stages of life that a Hindu may pass through.

The four stages are called: Brahmacharya, Grihastha, Vanaprastha and Sannyasa

The children in Year 4 discussed the life stages and related each stage to people that they know in real-life.

They then sorted the life stages using labels and images and then recorded what they had learnt into a table.

Ask one of the children to find out what stage of life you are in!

Quel temps fait-il aujourd'hui? French in Year 4

Year 4 have been practising weather phrases this half term and to show-case all they have learnt, they presented the weather to the class.

Using a map of Francophone countries, the children worked in groups to decide the day of the week, the country, three weather types and conjunctions (et, aussi and mais) to link their weather phrases together.

Can you ask the children in Year 4 the following question? Listen carefully to their reply so you can see what the weather is like today.

Quel temps fait-il aujourd'hui?

Achievement Assembly at Manor Way

Reading with Year 1

Year 1 have been enjoyed their Guided Reading groups this week. They have been using an alphabet mat to identify letters of the alphabet and the sounds they make, as well as playing the game, I Spy. They have been saying tricky words, matching them and using the words to make sentences.

Some of them have been working in groups to read different stories, discussing the relevance of the title as well as thinking about what the author and illustrator does. They have taken it in turns to read the book and answer questions about what is happening and how the characters are feeling.

RE - a special visitor for Year 3

Year 3 were very lucky to have a visit from Mr Young, our Chair of Governors yesterday. He came to share a variety artefacts and objects with the children that relate to our current RE focus of Judaism.

He shared with us how he celebrates Shabbat with his family, talked with us about bar mitzvahs and discussed the celebration of Hanukkah which this year, begins on the 28th November.

A VERY big thank you to Mr Young from Year 3.
