Planting seeds with Apple Tree!

Throughout our Literacy lessons this week, Apple Tree in Reception have been learning about plants, including the best season for them to grow. We know that Spring and Summer are the best seasons because it starts to get warmer.

At the beginning of the week, we had a go at labelling the different parts of a flower, using our Phonics to help us. We also discussed what a flower needs in order to grow.

Xzavier said, "The roots keep the plant under the ground."
Theo said, The stem is like a straw....it sucks up the water for the flower."
Diva said, "The leaves give the plant food."
Chinedu said, The petals smell nice for the bees."
Aaryan said, "You get water from the soil."
Demilade said, "Flowers start to grow from seeds."
Pahulpreet said, "When you get water they grow up."
Suheyma said, "If you put it in the sun....it will grow up for you."

The children took it in turns to plant their own seed. Reflecting upon the previous discussions, they knew they had to put some soil at the bottom of the cup, add the seed, top it up with more soil and finally add some water.

We will look after our seeds by watering them and keeping them in the sunlight. We are so excited to see how tall they will grow.
