Year 2 - Sycamore like to move!
This half term we are developing our Gymnastic skills. We
started by exploring different ways of movement. But first… it is really
important to warm up so your body is ready for exercise!
We played two warm up games that require us to use our running
and stopping skills.
- Cone Collector – pupils had to work in teams to
collect as many cones as possible from the centre of the room. This requires
children to work as a team to complete the activity and use tactics to try win!
- Mountains and Valleys – this is a game where two
groups work against each other to try and turn cones upside for Valleys or the
right way for mountains.
These are great fun; why don’t you try them at home?
Next, we completed a quick movement circuit to really get
our heart racing! We completed two rounds of a five station circuit. You can do this
at home with no equipment!
Station 1 – burpees
Station 2 – star jumps
Station 3 – plank challenge
Station 4 – Squat jumps
Station 5 – Core twists
Which station was your favourite?
Then, we explored different ways of movement. We looked at
low movement, mid movement and high movements. We had time to experiment with
different forms of travel. For example, we used the bear crawl, crab crawl and
squat walk for low movements.
For middle movements we used lunges and side
steps and for high movements we walked oni our tiptoes by using our arms to help
us balance.
Finally, we worked in small groups to create a sequence of
movement. We will be building on this in the next lesson too!
